Sleep Disorders in Switzerland

Sleep Onset and Maintenance Disorders are Common in Switzerland and Affect Slightly more than a Third of the Population.

Current Situation

Sleep disorders increase with age and affect women slightly more often than men. People in French- and Italian-speaking cantons report sleep disorders more frequently than those in German-speaking cantons. The proportion of reported sleep onset and maintenance disorders has been relatively stable since 1992, with a slight increase at the last survey point. The data presented is based on the Swiss Health Survey, which has been conducted by the federal government every 5 years since 1992. They were prepared by the Swiss Health Observatory.
